The Day an ISUZU Took Flight – And Landed Inside a House

2024 was already shaping up to be an unforgettable year for me at Techspire Wireless Pvt. Ltd — but not for the reason I thought.
Our company didn’t have those “strict” managers or seniors you’d expect. They were more like caring friends, most of them older than me. And maybe… just maybe… I took that as an advantage. At the time, I didn’t know it was a mistake in the making.

Every day after 6 PM, our work hours officially ended. And like clockwork, I’d be at a tea shop with my elder brothers (not by blood, but by bond) — Viswanathan and Vijay. The tea shop might change, but our post-work gathering never did.

One evening, around 6:10 PM, Viswa and I had a task: move the company’s ISUZU to another parking spot. Small catch? Neither of us knew how to drive it. But with no other choice, I decided to give it a try. I slowly put it in gear and moved forward. Viswa stared in disbelief, thinking I’d been hiding my driving skills all along — but the truth was, I was figuring it out on the spot. Miraculously, I parked it without a single scratch. That night, it became the talk of the office.

From then on, whenever we were at the warehouse (away from the main office building), we’d sneak in a little “ISUZU practice.” Not recommended, definitely not safe… but we were having fun, unaware of how serious this could get.

September 7, 2024 – The Flight

It was a Saturday, 4:15 PM, right in our usual tea break. I suggested to Viswa, “Shall we drive today?” He agreed, but with a deal — he’d drive the first 300 meters to the turning, and I’d take over from there to the warehouse.

We got in, buckled up, and off we went. Two hundred meters in, still laughing at his driving, we were just 100 meters away from my turn… when something unexpected happened.

Viswa suddenly floored the accelerator — and instead of turning left at the corner, he swung the steering wheel to the right. In front of us was a brand-new house. The ISUZU didn’t just bump into it — it flew, broke through the compound wall, and landed halfway inside the house.

It all happened in a second.
If we’d been 10 meters to the right, we’d have hit a massive neem tree. Ten meters to the left, and we’d have crashed into an electric cement pole. Somehow, fate picked the wall.

Viswa was still pressing the accelerator, and I shouted, “Anna, stop! Switch it off!” The vehicle came to rest at a 60-degree tilt. I stepped out first, my legs shaky. Two minutes later, Viswa joined me.

Within moments, the house owners appeared, followed by our office staff, managers, and eventually the directors. A crane was called to pull the vehicle out, HR was busy convincing the house owner, some people handled the insurance… and others? Busy spreading gossip.

The Aftermath

Our directors didn’t speak a single word to me about the incident that day. That silence… hit harder than any scolding could have.

The next day was Sunday, and Monday — September 9 — was my birthday. I wanted to take the day off to avoid awkward conversations, but my request was denied. “You need to come, Kali. All the directors are angry,” said SPR [Director] sir, my head.

So, I showed up. They asked what happened, I explained everything honestly. They accepted it. Viswa, still shaken, offered to bear the house repair cost, which came to ₹60,000. The company covered the ISUZU repairs.

By the second half, I quietly took leave and went to my favorite spot — Disepara Restaurant in Perundurai. Ordered one full grilled chicken, a chicken fried rice, and a blue mojito. Ate in peace, smiling to myself. Thinking about how it all started… and how it ended.

Sometimes, life’s wildest moments begin with “Shall we try?”

Author’s Note

I wrote this piece to share what I saw and felt during the Isuzu accident. It’s not just about a vehicle hitting a wall—it’s about the unexpected moments that stay in our minds.
